โš ๏ธ Safety Checkpoints & Warnings

๐Ÿ“‹ Step-by-Step Guide (6 Steps)

1

Disconnect Power and Remove the Needle

Turn off the sewing machine power switch and unplug the power cord completely from the wall outlet. Loosen the needle clamp screw by hand or with a screwdriver and slide the needle down and out.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข Power cord unplugged on the table
  • โ€ข Needle clamp empty and needle placed safely aside
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Leaving the power cord connected while working near the needle bar
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Do not attempt maintenance with the machine connected to power.
2

Remove Presser Foot and Needle Plate

Raise the presser foot lever and press the quick-release lever behind the foot holder to remove the presser foot. Use a flathead screwdriver to unscrew the two screws securing the needle plate, then lift the plate away.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข Needle plate fully removed
  • โ€ข Feed dog teeth and bobbin assembly fully exposed
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Using the wrong size screwdriver and stripping the needle plate screws
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Keep loose screws in a small dish so they do not fall into the lower mechanical housing.
3

Clear Packed Lint and Debris Around Feed Dogs

Use a lint brush to sweep away compacted fiber dust, thread tails, and lint from between the metal feed dog ridges. Lift out the bobbin case if necessary to sweep the lower gear area.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข Feed dog teeth metal is visible and clear of felted dust
  • โ€ข Bobbin cavity free of loose threads
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Using canned air which blows lint deeper into internal gears
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Avoid blowing into the race with your mouth to prevent moisture accumulation and rust.
4

Engage the Drop Feed Mechanism

Locate the feed dog drop switch or lever on the back, base, or free arm of your machine. Move the switch to the 'raised' or 'normal sewing' position, then turn the handwheel toward you one full turn to lock the feed dogs upward.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข Feed switch set to standard sewing icon
  • โ€ข Feed dogs rise above the level of the needle plate base
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Flipping the lever without turning the handwheel to re-engage the internal gear clutch
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Always turn the handwheel toward you (counterclockwise), never backward, to avoid jamming internal timing.
5

Check Presser Foot Pressure and Stitch Length

Reinstall the needle plate and presser foot securely. Inspect the stitch length dial to ensure it is set between 2.5 and 3.0 mm rather than zero, and verify that the presser foot pressure dial is set to normal tension (usually setting 2 or 3).

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข Needle plate screws tightened flush
  • โ€ข Stitch length dial clearly set above 2.0
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Leaving the stitch length set to '0' or buttonhole setting
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Ensure the needle plate is screwed completely flat so the needle will not strike it.
6

Insert Needle and Test Fabric Feed

Reinsert a fresh needle with the flat side facing the back and tighten securely. Plug the machine in, place two layers of scrap cotton under the presser foot, lower the foot lever, and run a test seam without pulling the fabric.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข Fabric moves steadily forward under the presser foot without manual pulling
  • โ€ข Evenly spaced stitches appear along the test line
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Pushing or pulling the fabric manually instead of letting the machine feed it
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Keep fingers at least one inch away from the needle path while pressing the foot controller.
