๐งฐ Required Tools & Equipment
- โ Plastic magnetic separator card
- โ Silicone work mat
- โ Precision tweezers
- โ Measuring ruler
- โ Small pouring funnel
๐ฆ Materials & Supplies
- โ 5mm Neodymium magnetic balls (approx. 2,500 pieces in blue, white, and silver)
- โ Custom-fit clear acrylic tray or flexible silicone mini basin (water barrier)
- โ Non-toxic waterproof craft sealant tape
- โ Dechlorinated clean water
- โ Miniature non-magnetic floating pool toys (optional)
โ ๏ธ Safety Checkpoints & Warnings
- โข Keep loose magnetic spheres strictly away from unsupervised pets at all times; ingestion causes life-threatening intestinal injuries.
- โข Ensure the internal waterproof basin completely isolates all magnetic beads from water to prevent corrosion and nickel coating degradation.
- โข Never place heavy or agitated pets in the pool; design is strictly for micro-pets (like small hermit crabs or supervised dwarf hamsters) on shallow water.
๐ Step-by-Step Guide (6 Steps)
Form the Base Grid Foundation
Unspool magnetic balls into long straight chains on your silicone work mat. Align the chains side-by-side to create a solid interlocking hexagonal sheet measuring 20 cm by 15 cm. Use your plastic separator card to trim the edges square and flatten any protruding spheres into a uniform planar surface.
- โข A flat, gapless magnetic sheet measuring 20 cm by 15 cm with no buckled nodes.
- โข Misaligning chain polarities, causing the sheet to curl upward or snap into bundles.
Construct the Retaining Basin Walls
Build four-sphere-thick magnetic wall strips using alternating blue and white magnetic spheres for aesthetic contrast. Snap the wall strips perpendicular along the perimeter of the base, building the exterior height up to 12 layers (approximately 5 cm tall). Reinforce corners by layering extra sphere rings into a triangular truss configuration.
- โข Four rigid, vertical walls standing 5 cm tall enclosing an interior cavity with reinforced 90-degree corners.
- โข Building walls only one sphere thick, which easily collapse under lateral pressure.
Build the Step-Down Entry Stairs and Sun Deck
Create three stepped modular blocks from magnetic spheres, decreasing the width of each block by two spheres to form shallow steps. Snap this stair unit firmly to one inner corner of the pool wall. Form a horizontal platform on the top tier to serve as an elevated sun deck for the pet.
- โข A three-tiered stair structure firmly seated inside the wall perimeter leading down to the pool floor.
- โข Creating steps too steep for small pet feet to grip securely.
Install and Seal the Waterproof Inner Basin
Drop a clear acrylic tray or pre-shaped silicone liner into the inner cavity to completely encapsulate the pool floor and interior walls. Use non-toxic waterproof craft tape along the upper lip of the liner to lock it seamlessly over the magnetic top wall. This step prevents water contact with the neodymium spheres and eliminates any risk of pets clawing at loose magnets.
- โข Liner sits flush against base and walls without creases or exposed magnetic surfaces.
- โข Pouring water directly into raw magnetic walls, which leaks instantly and rusts the magnets.
Add Perimeter Railings and Top Trim
Snap a single-layer border of silver magnetic spheres along the outer perimeter edge to frame the sealed pool liner neatly. Build a miniature guardrail along the sun deck using double-strand magnetic arches. Check all outer surfaces with your hand to make sure every bead is seated tightly in magnetic equilibrium.
- โข Polished silver top border concealing liner edges, accented with rigid mini guardrails.
- โข Applying excessive downward force, which can distort the underlying wall grid.
Fill Water and Conduct Pet Safety Check
Use a small pouring funnel to slowly fill the lined basin with room-temperature, dechlorinated water to a shallow depth (1 to 2 cm maximum). Inspect the base for any leaks or sagging under water weight. Introduce your pet only under close 100% direct supervision, ensuring the water level never exceeds the pet's shoulder height.
- โข Water sits stable within the clear liner with zero leakage onto magnetic layers.
- โข Overfilling the pool, creating an accidental drowning risk for micro-pets.
