📋 Step-by-Step Guide (6 Steps)
Condition and Divide Clay
Knead equal portions of each clay color in your hands until soft, pliable, and free of air bubbles. Roll each color into a smooth ball about 2 to 3 inches in diameter. Verify all balls are of equal volume for uniform stripe thickness.
- • Three shiny, crack-free clay spheres resting side-by-side on the mat.
- • Using cold, unconditioned clay that tears when rolled.
Roll Even Clay Ropes
Using flat palms and an acrylic roller, roll each clay ball into an even cylinder approximately 1 inch in diameter and 20 inches long. Keep pressure consistent along the length to maintain a uniform thickness from end to end.
- • Three smooth, uniform ropes of equal length and 1-inch diameter.
- • Applying uneven hand pressure, causing thin necks and thick bulges.
Twist Colors into Candy Stripe
Press the tips of the three ropes together at one end. Twist the ropes around each other along their entire length into a tight, barber-pole spiral pattern. Gently roll the combined rope on the mat to smooth the seams into one solid round rod.

Coil the Lollipop Disc
Lay the twisted rope flat on the work mat. Starting from one end, tightly coil the rope inward like a snail shell, keeping the coil flat against the surface. Continue winding until you form a flat circular disc roughly 6 to 8 inches across.
- • A tight, flat spiral disc with no gaps between concentric rings.
- • Lifting the coil off the table, causing the lollipop to dome or warp.
Insert Dowel and Secure
Trim the outer seam flush with the perimeter. Carefully push the wooden dowel into the base of the coil at least 2 inches deep, being careful not to pierce through the front or back faces. Remove dowel, add a drop of adhesive, reinsert, and smooth the clay around the entry point.

Seal and Finish
Allow the piece to cure fully according to clay type (bake polymer or dry air-dry clay). Apply two coats of high-gloss varnish across the entire surface for a wet candy look. Wrap in clear cellophane and tie off with ribbon around the stick.
