📋 Step-by-Step Guide (7 Steps)
Initial Horizontal Fold
Place the paper in portrait orientation on your flat surface. Fold the top edge down to meet the bottom edge perfectly, creating a horizontal crease across the middle. Run a bone folder or ruler firmly along the folded edge.

- • Misaligning bottom corners before pressing the crease.
Form Center Reference Crease
Fold the rectangle in half from right to left, aligning the side corners. Pinch or press firmly along the fold, then unfold it completely back to the landscape folded state.

Fold Top Corners to Center Line
Take the top-left and top-right corners (along the closed folded edge) and fold them downward to align exactly along the vertical center crease. Press firmly to create two matching right-angle triangles, leaving an unfolded bottom strip.

Fold Bottom Rims and Secure Corners
Fold the front bottom paper strip upward against the base of the triangle. Flip the entire model over and fold the remaining bottom strip upward on the reverse side. Fold the protruding small corner flaps over the edges on both sides to interlock them.

Open into a Square Diamond
Insert your thumbs into the bottom opening of the hat. Pull the front and back walls outward while bringing the two outer side corners together until the model flattens into a flat diamond square.

Fold Bottom Flaps Upward
Take the bottom open point of the diamond and fold the top layer upward to meet the top closed point. Flip the model over and repeat on the other side, creating a compact triangle.

- • Folding down from the closed point instead of up from the open bottom flaps.
Open Diamond and Expand Boat Hull
Open the bottom of the triangle again into a small diamond. Gently pull the two outer upper flaps apart outward to expand the boat hull until the central pyramid (the mast) rises in the middle. Flatten the bottom base with your finger so the boat sits upright.
