๐ Step-by-Step Guide (6 Steps)
Establish the Center Crease
Lay the paper vertically (portrait orientation) on your flat surface. Fold the left edge over to meet the right edge exactly, aligning the corners perfectly. Flatten the center spine with a firm pass using your bone folder, then unfold the paper flat with the crease ridge facing up.
- โข A crisp vertical crease runs directly through the center of the unfolded page.
- โข Misaligning top or bottom corners before creasing.
Fold Top Corners to Center Line
Take the top-left corner and fold it down diagonally so its top edge aligns flush along the central crease. Repeat for the top-right corner to form a neat 90-degree triangular point at the top. Flatten both diagonal seams firmly.
- โข A sharp, symmetrical triangular point pointing upward with both edges touching the center line.
- โข Overlapping the two diagonal edges across the center line.
Fold Top Triangle Downward
Fold the entire top triangular point straight down toward you along the base line of the triangle flaps. Press the horizontal fold firmly, leaving the pointed tip resting on the vertical center crease line roughly 1 inch above the bottom edge.
- โข The top now resembles an inverted envelope flap with the point centered on the middle crease.
- โข Folding down at an angle, skewing the point away from the center line.
Fold Upper Corners In to Expose Locking Tab
Take the new top-left corner and fold it diagonally toward the center crease, placing the corner roughly 1 inch above the downward point. Repeat on the right side so both corners meet evenly, exposing a small triangular tab underneath the meeting point.
- โข Two angled flaps meet in the center with a small diamond or triangle tip protruding beneath them.
- โข Folding corners completely over the lower point so no tab remains.
Lock Flaps with the Small Tab
Fold the exposed bottom triangular tip upward over the two diagonal flaps along the straight horizontal seam. Press down firmly with your bone folder to lock the folded layers tightly together.
- โข A small upward-pointing triangle securely overlaps both front flaps.
- โข Not pressing the tab flat enough, allowing the nose layers to spring open.
Fold Spine in Half and Set Wings
Flip the plane so the locking tab faces down, then fold the fuselage in half along the center crease so the tab remains on the outside bottom. Fold each wing down parallel to the bottom fuselage edge, leaving roughly a 0.75-inch tall body. Unfold wings slightly so they form a subtle upward 'V' shape (dihedral angle).
