📋 Step-by-Step Guide (6 Steps)
Disassemble the Highlighter
Remove the cap and pull the felt writing nib out of the marker tip using pliers. Grip the plastic back end-plug with pliers and wiggle it firmly until it pops free from the barrel. Pull the saturated felt ink reservoir out from the hollow body and discard it onto paper towels.

Wash and Dry the Tube

Cut the Resonator Sound Hole
Place the barrel flat on the cutting mat and mark a rectangular window roughly 0.5 inches (12 mm) long on the upper top side, about one inch from the mouthpiece end. Use the utility knife to slowly score and cut out the rectangular opening, deburring any sharp plastic edges.
- • A clean, burr-free rectangular or oval hole cut cleanly into one side of the marker barrel.
- • Barrel remains structurally rigid without collapsing.

Cut and Position the Membrane
Cut a small square of thin plastic film measuring roughly 1 by 1 inch (2.5 x 2.5 cm). Center the plastic membrane directly over the cut sound hole so it completely covers the opening with overlap on all sides. Lay it flat across the hole without pulling it completely rigid.

Tape and Secure the Membrane
