How to Make a PVC Drone Flute

Cut and Prep the Dual PVC Tubes
Cut two identical 18-inch sections from the 3/4-inch Schedule 40 PVC pipe using a hacksaw or ratcheting cutter. Use 150-grit sandpaper to deburr the cut ends inside and out until smooth and flat. Mark one pipe as 'Drone' and the other as 'Melody' with your marker.

Cut Sound Windows and Fipple Edges
Measure 1.5 inches down from the top end of each pipe and mark a 1/4-inch square window. Ensure the splitting edge on both pipes is identical in depth and sharpness.

Shape and Insert Wooden Fipple Plugs

Slide each plug into the top of the pipes until the flat windway directly channels air onto the filed labium edge, testing with gentle breath until each tube sounds a clear, stable tone.
