📋 Step-by-Step Guide (6 Steps)
Prepare the Fuselage
Take the main 500ml bottle and remove any labels and adhesive residue. Mark two horizontal 1-inch slits opposite each other along the mid-body using a marker and ruler. Carefully puncture and slice along these marks using a utility knife to create wing insertion slots.
- • A clean, label-free bottle with two parallel horizontal slits at the midsection.
- • Slits are symmetrical and level when viewed from the front.
- • Cutting the slits too wide, which causes the main wing to wobble.
- • Misaligning the slits so one side is higher than the other.
Cut the Main Wings and Tail Fin
Trace a continuous 10-inch long airfoil wing shape onto a sturdy piece of cardboard. Draw a vertical tail fin and horizontal stabilizer onto the remaining cardboard. Cut all pieces out smoothly using heavy-duty scissors.
- • One long, symmetrical main wing piece.
- • One vertical tail fin and one horizontal tail stabilizer ready for assembly.
- • Cutting across the cardboard corrugation grain, making wings prone to bending.

Install the Main Wing Assembly
Slide the one-piece main wing through the side slits of the bottle fuselage until centered. Apply a thin bead of hot glue around the junction where the cardboard meets the bottle on both sides. Hold the wings level for 15 seconds until the adhesive sets.
- • The wing passes completely through the bottle body and sits perpendicular to the fuselage.
- • Solid glue fillets bonding the cardboard to the plastic without gaps.
- • Gluing the wings while tilted at an angle.
- • Using excessive hot glue that warps the thin plastic bottle wall.
Attach the Tail Section
Cut a short 1-inch vertical slit in the top rear base of the fuselage bottle. Insert the vertical stabilizer into the slit and secure it with hot glue. Glue the horizontal tail stabilizer horizontally across the rear base just below the vertical fin.
- • Tail fin standing straight at 90 degrees on the rear top of the fuselage.

Construct and Mount Landing Gear
Poke a central hole through four matching bottle caps to serve as wheels. Thread two caps onto each wooden skewer axle, trimming skewers to 4 inches. Glue two folded cardboard struts to the underside of the fuselage and mount the axles through them.
- • Two parallel axles secured beneath the fuselage with four wheels touching the ground evenly.
- • The airplane rests level on flat ground without tipping over.
- • Gluing wheels directly to the skewer so they cannot spin.

Fabricate and Mount the Propeller
Cut a 4-inch two-blade propeller shape from the side wall of the second plastic bottle. Pierce a small hole through the center of the propeller and the main fuselage bottle cap. Secure the propeller loosely to the cap using a small pin or short skewer segment, then screw the cap onto the nose.
- • A balanced two-blade propeller mounted directly on the front bottle cap.
- • Propeller spins freely when flicked by hand.
- • Fastening the propeller axle too tightly against the bottle cap, preventing rotation.
