๐ Step-by-Step Guide (5 Steps)
Pour the Glue Base
Pour 1/2 cup of white PVA school glue into the center of the mixing bowl. Scrape the sides of your measuring cup with the silicone spatula to ensure the full volume transfers. The glue forms the foundational polymer network for the slime.
- โข A smooth, level pool of opaque white glue resting at the bottom of the bowl.
- โข Using glue with dried crusts around the rim
- โข Under-measuring the base liquid
Incorporate Colgate Toothpaste
Squeeze exactly one tablespoon of Colgate toothpaste into the center of the glue. Use the silicone spatula to fold and stir in slow, circular motions until the paste completely dissolves into the glue. The mixture should take on a uniform light tint with no streaks or chunks remaining.
- โข A silky, uniform pastel mixture with zero visible toothpaste lumps or streaks.
- โข Adding too much toothpaste, which breaks down PVA polymers into a runny liquid
Blend in Baking Soda
Sprinkle 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda evenly across the surface of the mixture. Stir vigorously with the spatula for 30 to 45 seconds to distribute the powder entirely. Baking soda acts as a pH buffer, allowing the activator to cross-link the glue evenly.
- โข Complete dissolution of the powder with a smooth, glossy surface.
- โข Dumping baking soda in a single heap, causing localized gritty pockets
Add Activator in Small Increments
Drizzle 1/2 teaspoon of contact lens solution over the mixture and stir immediately. Continue stirring until the mixture starts pulling away from the bowl sides, then add another 1/2 teaspoon. Stop adding liquid as soon as the mass begins balling up around the spatula.
- โข The mixture pulls cleanly away from the bowl walls into a cohesive, gelatinous mass.
- โข Dumping all activator at once, which produces rubbery, stiff slime
Knead by Hand
Coat your hands with 2-3 drops of baby oil or contact solution, then lift the slime mass from the bowl. Stretch and fold the slime continuously in your palms for 2 to 3 minutes. The initial tackiness will subside as body heat and motion finish the cross-linking process.
- โข Slime stretches effortlessly without sticking to fingers, leaving palms clean.
- โข Giving up early and adding excessive activator when the slime feels temporarily tacky
