📋 Step-by-Step Guide (6 Steps)
Prepare Mold and Work Area
Clean the silicone mold thoroughly using isopropyl alcohol or mild soapy water and let it air dry completely. Place the mold onto a flat, level surface covered with a craft mat or wax paper to prevent spills. Check inside the mold crevices with a flashlight or bright light to ensure no dust or lint remains.
- • Mold is dry, lint-free, and resting completely flat on the work surface.
- • Leaving moisture inside the mold, which causes surface bubbling and cloudiness.
Measure Silicone Parts A and B
Place a mixing cup onto the digital scale and tare it to zero. Pour equal parts of Silicone Part A and Silicone Part B according to the manufacturer's exact weight ratio (typically 1:1). Ensure precision within 1 gram to guarantee a full, non-sticky cure.
- • Both Part A and Part B are poured into the cup at an exact 1:1 weight ratio.
- • Estimating by eye rather than using a calibrated scale or graduated marks.
Color and Mix Thoroughly
Add a tiny drop of silicone pigment or a pinch of mica powder to the mixture. Stir slowly and methodically in wide circles for 2 to 3 full minutes, scraping down the cup walls and bottom. Keep the stir stick submerged to minimize incorporating excess air bubbles.
- • Uniform, streak-free liquid color throughout the entire cup without unmixed clear spots.
- • Whipping the mixture rapidly, creating thousands of microbubbles.
Pour Silicone in a Thin Stream
Hold the mixing cup 8 to 12 inches above the lowest point of the mold. Pour the mixed silicone in a very thin, continuous stream, allowing it to slowly fill the cavities from the bottom up. Fill until the liquid is level with the mold rim without overflowing.
- • Silicone fills every corner of the mold and levels out flush with the top rim.
- • Dumping the mixture quickly over the entire top, trapping air pockets in recessed features.
De-gas and Allow to Cure
Gently tap the filled mold against your table 10 to 15 times to force remaining bubbles to rise to the surface. Pop any surface bubbles with a toothpick. Leave the mold undisturbed on a level surface for 3 to 6 hours (or per product cure time instructions).
- • Surface is flat, glossy, and clear of rising bubble domes.
- • Moving or checking the squishy prematurely while the silicone is still in a fragile gel state.
Demold and Powder Coat
Gently peel the mold edges away from the squishy and roll the squishy out slowly without overstretching. Immediately dust the surface with baby powder or flocking powder using a soft brush, coating all sides to eliminate natural silicone stickiness. Store inside a clear display bag or squishy pouch.
- • Squishy is completely released from mold with intact shape, smooth matte finish, and zero sticky tack.
- • Yanking the squishy rapidly out of deep molds, causing tears along thin joints.
